Making sure to have the microphone correctly set up in your PC is crucial for Interpreters, but also for Moderators and Presenters.
In this article, you will learn how to set the default microphone, adjust the microphone input volume levels and make sure the microphone is not muted on Windows 10/11.
Setting the Default Microphone in Windows 10:
1. Right-click on the Speaker icon on the taskbar at the bottom right side and choose
Sounds"
2. Choose the "Recording" tab and check that the microphone you want to use has a Green tick on it. If not, right-click on the microphone and choose "Set as Default Device" and "Set as Default Communication Device". Click on Apply to confirm the changes.
3. After completing these steps make sure to refresh the browser with the Boostlingo Events or close the browser and open it again.
Adjusting the Microphone Levels on Windows 10:
Adjusting the microphone Levels lets you change how much sound your microphone picks up.
1. As before, right-click on the Speaker icon on the taskbar at the bottom right side and choose ”Sound“ and then under the "Recording" tab, right-click on the microphone you are using and choose "Properties"
2. Go to the "Levels" tab and adjust the Microphone by dragging the bar to the right side to make the microphone louder. Make sure that the small speaker sign is not crossed in red (meaning the microphone would be muted). Click on Apply to confirm the changes.
3. After completing these steps make sure to refresh the browser with the Boostlingo Events or close the browser and open it again.
Setting the Default Microphone in Windows 11:
1. Right-click the speaker icon on the bottom-left of your screen
2. Left-click "Sound settings"
3. Scroll to the "Input" Menu
4. Check the following:
- The right microphone is selected,
- The input volume is at 100 (maximum)
- That the microphone icon does not appear muted
5. In case the microphone has a dash over it, you are muted rom Windows and need to click it to unmute. Here is a summary of the statues:
