This is a checklist for moderators, speakers and interpreters on how to test their own audio prior to the beginning of any event. It’s important to follow these instructions in advance to avoid any last-minute issues. Please note that if you are joining as an audience members, these steps are not applicable until you are promoted as a speaker.

Before entering the event:

  1. Connect with a computer, preferably via Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge as a browser.
  2. Join the Boostlingo Events link, either directly or via our portal
  3. You will initially be in a pre-event area - Allow the use of your microphone and webcam from your browser when prompted - You should be seeing six green dots at the bottom of that page. In case either appear read, you may be having a device or connection issue.

  4. Make sure you have your right microphone selected from this list:

  5. You can unmute your microphone and start speaking - The volume levels should appear below:
  6. The above should indicate that the audio levels are detected well, but to be extra sure, you can Test your audio by recording yourself for a few seconds and playing that audio back - This will be exactly how others will be hearing you on the event. In case you notice any audio inconsistency, you can adjust your settings.

When entering the event:

  • Make sure you keep an eye on the volume bar at the top right of the screen. If you try producing any sound, you will see the bar moving up and down

  • If you can’t hear yourself, either when performing the check phase or during an official event, please get in touch with our live support team (if this service was booked) - We will guide you immediately. Alternatively, you can also try either of the following
    • Ensure you selected the right microphone device from the settings menu (three dots) from the top-right. This is in case you haven't done this step before joining the event.
    • Make sure your microphone is not hard-muted (e.g. with a mute button on the microphone)
    • Refresh the browser
    • Quit any other software using your microphone (e.g. Skype or Teams)
    • Quit the browser and open it again
    • Restart the computer.
    • Switch the browser to alternatives supported for your role.
